Make Money Online with Poker Affiliate Programs
June 7, 2008 by Tony | Tag(s):
A few days ago, Neil Patel introduced me to one of his client sites. The site, Poker Affiliate Programs, is unique because of the amount of money it makes (they gave Neil a free Black Amex) and the level of talent behind it. After checking out the site, I decided it’s worth writing about because you can definitely learn from it.
In the past few years, the game of Poker has become a national pastime. Thanks to shows like the World Poker Tour and World Series of Poker, the game is being played by more people than ever before. Poker is one of the only games in the world where an amateur can go head to head against a professional and win.
While you can make money at the Poker table if you’re a good player, most players will end up lining the pockets of the sharks. Another way to make money with Poker is with affiliate programs and this is where Poker Affiliate Programs (RSS feed) comes in.
What is Poker Affiliate Programs
Poker Affiliate Programs was established to provide webmasters who are interested in promoting online poker a place to research, discuss and gain insight into the business. They achieve this by providing a networking environment (Forums) for both new affiliates and experienced marketers alike. Affiliates can gather and exchange ideas and information while interacting with the actual programs they are promoting.
The site also maintains a blog that is filled with affiliate marketing tips that are not only good for the poker affiliate, but also great for the average blogger trying to make money online. This is where the real value of the site comes in. Some of the posts you’ll want to check out include:
- 25 Ways To Say “Click Here” & Increase Your CTR’s
- Rags to Riches – How One Internet Marketer Used The Poker Affiliate Industry To Change His Life And Build A Six Figure Empire.
- PAP Blog Top Commentor Wins $100 Every Month
- Elite Retreat 2008 - Shoemoney Interview
- Business Partners: The Good And The Bad
- Measuring your success on multiple sites
- Introduction to Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Using a Network of Sites to Your Advantage
- A Day In The Office At PokerAffiliatePrograms.com (Pictures)
There is enough diversity in the posts to make Poker Affiliate Programs a daily read for anyone interested in making money online. The methods used to promote poker >affiliates can be applied to any other affiliate programs. The site is updated daily so you should sign up for their RSS feed if you don’t want to miss a single post.
I wonder if Poker Affiliate Programs will give me a free Black Amex?
How To: Creating Sidebar Tabs In Your WordPress Theme
June 7, 2008 by Tony | Tag(s):
As blogging continues to evolve and WordPress themes continue to become more functional, it is my belief that we will start to see more themes using tabs to help manage sidebar content. The problem with sidebar tabs is that they require Javascript to use, so very few themes seem to be using them.
I won’t claim to be a whiz with javascript, but I found that creating tabs was not overly difficult. I’ve recently switched a section of my sidebar over to tabs on my main blog, Slickmania!, to help manage my sidebar content. So far I am very happy with the results. It allows me to provide readers with a bunch of different site navigation options while not really taking up any extra room, so people that want it can use and it isn’t in the way for people that don’t want to browse archives or see my top commentators.
If you are interested in doing something similar for your weblog, Headset Options wrote a series of posts studying the anatomy of a Magazine WordPress theme. The second post is actually dedicated to covering some types of javascript and focuses on Domtab and Tabber. You’ll find a nice examination and then a tutorial of how to add this to your WordPress blog. If you aren’t familiar with either type of javascript, I recommend you start with Tabber, as it is quite a bit easier to work with in my opinion.
What is your opinion of sidebar tabs? Do you find it more convenient or does it make the content harder to find?
How To: Changing Your WordPress Admin Color
June 5, 2008 by Tony | Tag(s): WordPress Tips
I know a lot of people that have upgraded to WordPress 2.5 have all flocked to the Fluency Admin plugin, but many people probably didn’t know that you can also change the color of your dashboard to a more “classic” WordPress look from within your dashboard. This was added for people that are slow to accept change.
All you need to do is go into your “Users” tab and select “Your Profile.” Once that is done, you should see the following:
Here you can select the “Classic” radio button to change to a darker and more familiar blue color. This change is only saved for the individual user, so other users logged in will need to log in and make the change as well if they want the classic look.
Hopefully future versions will contain more options, but for now, it is at least nice to have a choice!
Increase Traffic by Choosing the Right Images for your Post

I’ve always loved Hack Wordpress for the practical advice they offer, a recent example of which would be changing Wordpress Permalinks to be more SEO-friendly. Thus, I guess you can say I was inspired to talk about my own experiences with SEO. I’ll explicitly say this right now - I’m no qualified SEO expert, and the stuff I’m about to offer you isn’t going to work 100% of the time. I pulled off many of my traffic spikes by choosing the right images for my posts. With almost every post, I try to include relevant images. Some are screenshots that I’ve created myself, but most are images I take from other places on the web. I have personally discovered that the images that bring in the most traffic are usually already found on the first page of Google Images and are perfectly timed. Read more

If you don’t have a lot of coding knowledge, you probably find that you use widgets a lot for your sidebar content. I know many bloggers have come to rely on widgets and now WordPress 2.5 has changed some things.
If you would like to learn how to use widgets in WordPress 2.5+, I recommend you check out the WordPress 2.5 Sidebar Widgets Guide over at WordPress Max. He does a good job of getting you used to the new look and feel of the new WordPress widgets system.
